This is like reading the first two chapters of a novel, only to find the rest of the book missing. Thankfully, no cliffhangers, just HEA. Though the story probably continues in later volumes, I won't be ripped off paying again for every tiny installment. The very explicit sex is ok, but unfortunately replaces character development. Druid, witch and sorcerer are considered synonyms! I've had more than enough of main characters who just can't resist each other for no better reason than that they're fated mates.
Hi! For the most part I really really, liked Sacred Places. The chemistry between the two characters Deri and Coyle was hot, hot, hot. And the writing is really solid and I liked the supernatural world that she was building in the book. I would read more; Like her style... but.The whole thing with "evil" Chad and Deri redeeming herself in the eyes of the counsel was completely glossed over. What a waste of a perfectly good plot line. I thought for sure I was mistaken, but nope, it was all over before it began and it was kind of lame. I was so annoyed that I almost gave this a three. I think the author should rerelease this novella or turn it into a book with more meat to that part of the story. However everything else was so good for me, I gave it a 4 anyway.By the way... sex scenes are NOT glossed over so be warned, but like that they knew each other well first as far as timeline goes. That also swayed my rating, don't like insta-sex. Thanks!
Deri is a witch who’s in trouble and on the run. She can’t shake a mistake named Chad who’s gotten her punished for a magical crime she didn’t commit. But she feels lucky to have been given her freedom even if she has to leave all her family and life behind to start over. Oh and NOT use magic, that’ll be harder but she can do it. She just has to stay one step ahead of her ex boyfriend turned stalker. Coyle is a Druid mage, he’s immortal and has been hoping one day to find his soul mate as do all immortals. Deri applies for a job at his pub and he hires her on the spot. They’re each struck dumb at their first meeting. Coyle thinks she’s his soul mate but knows a human, which she seems, can’t be. This book has witty banter, sexy smokin hot immortal highlanders and very little drama. It was for me, a quick read. I enjoyed it and if I had to complain about one thing it would be Deri never mentions Chad to Coyle as being after her and Coyle never telling Deri about his fight with Chad. Otherwise this book was awesome and a definite read.
Coyle is an over seven hundred year old Druid, protector of humanity and druids, a teacher to fledgling witches and owner of a quaint pub.Deri, descendant of druids, powerful witch and Certified Accountant is on the run from her ex, who has framed her with “a magical infraction that almost cost the life of a mortal†and as a result has been banned by the High Council from contacting her family and using her magic. Deri ends up in Grove Bluff, working for Coyle at his pub, for three years both have had an intense attraction but did nothing about it until the night when Deri’s past catches up to her.I get that this was a novella, but things were glossed over. What did Deri’s ex do to frame her? How was Deri’s ex able to find her? Why did Coyle- an over 700 year old Druid and member of the High Council of Magic not get even an inkling that Deri was a witch- even though she wasn’t using her powers?All in all this was a quick, blink and you are done read.

He found his mate-Deri Sullivan when she came to work for him but believes at first she is human so he doesn’t pursue her as his mate. But there is more to Deri than meets the eye.Deri is a witch from a family of Magik holders. She has been sanctioned for using her Magik that harmed a human. The problem is she is innocent but she cannot get anyone, not even her own family to listen or even believe in her. Looking for a place to lay low (hide) after being sanctioned by the PBI (Paranormal Bureau of Investigations), she ends up in Grove Bluff , a place she remembers from childhood looking for work. Where she meets the hero is Coyle, owner of the pub Deri goes to looking for work. Coyle and Deri are such a great couple and the sparks are definitely there. The pair are drawn to each other but neither acts on their mutual attraction. What they do instead is work together for three years building their friendship. Its only when Coyle realizes what Deri really is, is when the “gloves†come off, you could say. You will love it when the sparks finally begin to fly! This is an expanded version of her original story so enjoy the bounty.I do not want to give off any spoilers but what I can say is there is something so special and so wonderful about the Alpha maleness of Colye and the feistiness and grit of Deri. This is one of Ms. Roth’s well written paranormal novella books. You will not go wrong with this story.My rating: 4.7 stars ****
