This is a great book for young African Americans boys to identify with. There are not many books left that can keep the readers attention and focused on the stories that Julian tells. The life of Julian is more realistic to black families. Although, the author is white, her books are intriguing and funny and African American readers enjoy the life of Julian. I have purchased all of Ann Cameron’s books with African American characters and a few audible cd on Audible. For my children who are in there 30’s and my grandsons 8 and 10, this chapter books will be read and remembered always. Thank you Ann for such wonderful books!
Ann Cameron paints a great picture of life in her words. Her characters are real and their ideas are realistic. She uses a wide variety of language and tone for the speakers. Students have al ot to learn from this book.
I had this book as a child. Great book for kids with a vivid imagination. They will relate to Julian's ability to weave stories. But beware this character is also mischievous and dishonest at times.
I needed this for my daughter. I homeschool and this was one of the requirements for the day. Thankfully it was available for the e-reader. I recommend this for anyone with a 2nd grader. Fun and keeps kids interested.
Wonderful series! We have a few others as well! We will continue buying!
I got all of JULIAN'S books. They are my 5 year old's first chapter books. I want to turn him on to reading - and it worked!
I donated this book to the Dayton children's hospital. The lady that manages the department that distributes donated items emailed me that they really like this book. I will follow up with other titles in the Stepping Stone series.
Excellent stories. Subtle, humorous, loving. . There are not enough well-written books about black families that "normalize them and have well-developed characters and engaging plots. Children of all ethnicities need such exposure
