Errant Gods is a cracking good adventure/horror novel. Its protagonist,a disabled former New York State policeman from Rochester, NY namedHank Jensen, finds himself drawn by a heritage he knows nothingabout into a cross-dimensional quest to rescue his wife and son, whohave been abducted by unspeakably monstrous beings from SomeplaceElse who have been hanging around Earth for a few centuries giving rise toWendigo legends with their grotesque amusements. Hank manages toinspire unusual malice in these creatures, who induce him to followthem to their home dimension by grabbing his family. Once there, heis taken in and assisted in his quest by a family of wonderful people whoare involved in an off and on centuries long cosmic struggle with theirrelatives, who just happen to be the Very Bad people who have beenterrorizing Hank after leaving a long and bloody trail on Earth. In the course of chasing down the villains, Hank gets filled in on Whohis new friends and enemies are, and his own heritage as one ofthem. The quest for Hank's family involves a great deal of high class swordswinging, sorcery and help or hindrance from all manner of supernaturalbeings. All things considered, just the sort of Wise Guys Save the Worldstory I happen to be addicted to thanks to folks like E.R. Eddings. Well done,Erik! Well paced, intriguing and there appears to be a sequel in the works! Can't wait!

Review of Errant Gods, Erik Henry VickYes, Errant Gods compares favorably to Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, and yes, Mr. Vick’s work holds up well to that of LL Tolkien. All share the Great Quest, which on the face of things, appears seems fantastically unlikely to succeed. Yet the heroes persist.I also sense an echo, in Vick’s Hank Jensen (possibly the most sympathetic protagonist I can think of since Danny Torrance in the Overlook Hotel), of Bill Hodges in King’s Mr. Mercedes cycle. They seem to share the same wounded, damaged, relentless persistence in their journeys, despite how implausible success may seem. I just don’t see that kind of doggedness portrayed -- and so well -- very often. Then there are the “Bristol Butchers”, two of the most appallingly horrifying, just plain evil-with-a-capital-E antagonists I have ever encountered. And that’s just chapter one. Plenty more to come, never doubt it..In short, Vick sucked me into the dark and detailed world of this story in less than two chapters and never let me go until the very last pages. The path from here to there was strange indeed, spanning worlds and dimensions, peopled with beings of unknown heritage and abilities.Fortunately, this is only Book One. Book Two can’t come out soon enough for this fantasy/horror fan.

Was scrolling through Facebook and saw a suggestion for this book and saw that it was compared to Stephen Kings The Dark Tower saga. I figured what the hell might as well give it a try. Thank god I did! If your looking for something with the feel of The Dark Tower it does have that feel a little but, it is a story that is totally different. I absolutely loved it!I love how it involves Norse mythology, dragons, dwarfs, and some really dark fantasy and horror. So well written and just keeps you hooked by how fast it moves. It is wicked fun to read and can’t wait until the next book. So great!

I was concerned in the beginning of the book that it was not going to live up to the hype provided by the reviews. I'm so happy I stuck with it! It became a book that I absolutely dreaded putting down! I love the story, the characters, the land everything... well except the beginning. I'm going to Amazon right now and looking for more from this author. Very highly recommend!

I greatly enjoyed Errant Gods. The premise is original, with a bit of re-imagining of the Norse pantheon, and the characters are well fleshed out and likeable. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because the dialog was sometimes a bit off - the modern characters not using contractions and the 'gods' using phrases that it didn't seem like they should know. Otherwise, it was fantastic. I'm definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

It was a good concept, but the execution was terrible. Too many flashbacks, clunky dialogue and preposterous situations. The ending made me want to throw my phone at the wall. To mention this book in the same breath as The Gunslinger Series is laughable.

I am nearly done with this book and i find myself already in mourning of the end. I haven't enjoyed a story this much in so very long. Erik Henry Vick has a gift. He captures us with his talent, weaving his tales around the tendrils of our imaginations, creating the perfect enviroment to loose yourself amoung his characters and their worlds. I say, MORE Vick, MORE!! Please write more for us. I am not ready to leave this wierd world you have drawn me into. I want more.

This story is a testament of how far a man will go for his wife and son. Hank Jenson used to be New York City's best criminal profiler, but the Bristol Butchers changed all that for him. Depressed and his health isn't what it used to be he seeks happiness in his family. Until they disappear. He if forced to find them. There everything he thought he knew is questioned beyond belief. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
