Bartocci's Youtube channel is awesome … and it was with that starting point that I decided to pay $43 to get his manual. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend it.For the price, it contains nothing exceptional, certainly nothing that I can't find better handled in other works (such as Patrick Sweeney's excellent 'Gunsmithing the AR-15: The Bench Manual'). The book covers the M4 & M16 in the standard military configuration--a fact it explicitly states ("This course is designed for military and law enforcement personnel whom[sic] may be charged with maintaining M16/M4-type rifles and carbines.") so no disappointment there. However, the civilian who will be the most likely purchaser of this manual has a much larger market of products from which to draw and knowing how to dissemble the A2 front-sight-post or the rear sight assembly on a removable carry handle is diminishing returns for me and for most people who aren't military armorers. There's also coverage of select-fire and burst-first configurations, again a miss for most people.This is notwithstanding the formatting and typographical content of the book itself. The color photographs are a nice touch (though a few are pixelated) but textual references to the photographs are inconsistent, and formatting is straight up fractious--as when the text references a picture that is on another page entirely, for example. This makes reading "bumpy" at best and annoying at worst. There are numerous grammatical errors, misspellings and contextual issues, such as using catchphrases in the wrong sense. This work could do with the attention of a competent editor.Unfortunately, this is a miss for me. 2.5 stars.
This is a detailed manual on the disassembly and assembly of AR-15 style rifles. The instructions and pictures are clear, and the author has established his bona fides with years of articles and books, plus a technical YouTube channel that I have found fascinating. In fact, the Small Arms Solutions channel is what led me to purchase this book.If you’re a beginner, this is mandatory before building an AR. Don’t just rely on (still helpful) online videos. Get this book.Bear in mind, it is focused on the detailed basics, so there is little content that would apply to ‘extras’ of variants from the standard. In other words, you’ll have to look elsewhere for installing a free float handguard, etc.
Awesome info with lots of pictures and well thought out instructions. It's nice knowing there are people like chris bartocci out there. that are highly knowledgable about the ar15/m4 family of weapons, that are willing to spend the time to compile all the information neccessary to make a quality armorers manual. I understand this book is not for everyone if you are already a so called "internet gun expert" your immense knowledge will be in pain knowing there could be a spelling mistake or possiblly info about firearms that you do not own, Such as parts to an auto sear. I see there are other people that have reviewed this book that fall into this category and they are entitled to their opinions, but honestly this book is written for the common man that is trying to get accurate and trustworthy information and this book does that perfectly with more colored pictures and step by step instructions than i have ever seen in a manual. This book is definatley worth ordering.
From basic maintenance, to tear down and rebuild, and parts identification. It really covers everything, and with nice full color photographs, and detailed illustrations. In the sections where special tools are used, part numbers are provided.This is the manual that you wished had came with your rifle.
Excellent!!! A must have !!! I have other material and dvds and this is a must if you own the firearm or just qurious!!
Great Book, Easy to understand.Great for someone not as familiar with the 15 platform.
This is great if you intend to work on your AR or plan to build one.
More detail then I've seen in other books, clear pictures, very happy with my purchase.
