About the Author

This is literally the worst travel guide I have purchased. The format is set up like the mind of someone with ADHD. Maps are illegible and unlike other travel guides, there is no pull-out map. As a world traveler, I prefer to read the book ahead of time and use the map while on location. No one wants to carry around a bulky travel guide when visiting a strange city.
Great book! I found this guidebook to be quite helpful planning for my first trip to Bogotá. I liked how it had information on Villa de Leyva, a colonial town nearby, as well, that I’m planning on visiting. I read someone’s comments here about lack of pull-out maps, but who wants to stand out as a foreign tourist in a big South American city looking at a big map?!! Gotta try to blend in!!!
The book gave a nice background on the city and had good recommendations for surrounding locales. I also bought the Cartagena and Medellin books and they all share the same facts and figures about the country at the end...a little repetitive when you buy all 3.
The book is good. THere is not as much focus on Bogota proper as i would like. Most of the book is for places outside the city center.Its good for someone who is going to explore the outskirts.Well written, but not too many "insider tips" or "off the beaten path" like Moon usually has.
It's not the best guide book ever -- the maps were not entirely clear (it wasn't obvious where the items listed in the book were on the maps). Descriptions are so brief as to be almost useless, but enough information is presented to have an idea of what more you need to know. That takes a different guide book, however!
